Iceland isn´t only trolls and elves. It is also volcanoes, glaciers, and waterfalls. South Coast is the home of glaciers and volcanoes. Some of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls are located on the South Coast which runs from the glaciers located there. Europe’s largest glacier lies on the South Coast along with many many others. On this Reykjavik Outventure tour, you get to walk on one of the glaciers which lie on Iceland’s most powerful volcano.
Reykjavik Outventure is a small family-owned operator with huge heart which creates high-quality experiences for tourists. We specialize in small group tours with personal experience, where the guests get to taste things and visit places they would usually not do except with a local guide.
Reykjavik Outventure’s team consists of experienced local guides who are here to make your days the best possible. Reykjavik has a lot to offer you. You can also visit Private Reykjavik City walking tour
Tour Description
The tour starts with a pickup from Reykjavik at your hotel, guesthouse, or closest bus stop. You can also be picked up from your accommodation on the South Coast route. Pickup is between 08:30 and 09:00. This will be a long day so it is better to start it early.
The first stop is Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This is the waterfall running from Eyjafjallajökull, the famous volcano that erupted in 2010. You better learn the word because this is the passcode to get back into the bus. Along with this stop, you must also not forget that Private South Coast tour with glacier hike is also waiting for you.
Skógafoss waterfall is just a 20 minutes drive from this one. Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls. You have the chance to see it from 2 angles. Walk right up to it and see the water run down right in front of you, or walk on top of it and see the water run down from above.
Right next to the waterfall is the glacier you will be walking on. Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier from Myrdalsjokull. Underneath this glacier is Iceland’s most powerful volcano, Katla. Katla erupted last time over 100 years ago and we are waiting for her to erupt again.
A glacier hike is probably one of the coolest things you will ever do. It is important to do it with an experienced guide that knows all the trails and cracks.
The last stop before heading back is the one and only Black sand beach. This beach has been used in many films and shows. What makes it so special is probably everything you see around it. Glacier, islands, trolls in the ocean, basaltic cliffs, small caves, and of course the black volcanic beach.
No, wait! Did I say that Black Sand Beach was your last stop? The Old Cowhouse is the last one! There you get a delicious early dinner to finish your day off.
