Tour Description
Embark on the original and classic whale-watching tour from Reykjavík, one of Iceland’s most renowned attractions! Join us for an opportunity to witness the incredible whales and dolphins of Faxaflói Bay.
Meet us at the ticket office near the Old Harbour in downtown Reykjavík, where you’ll exchange your prepaid voucher for boarding passes. Just a few steps away, our Visitor Centre awaits, situated aboard a converted fishing vessel permanently docked by the pier. Here, you’ll meet our crew and venture downstairs to the vessel’s hull, where a unique floating wildlife exhibition awaits, offering insights into the creatures you may encounter during the tour.
Board the whale watching vessel through the Visitor Centre, granting access to outdoor viewing platforms and a heated indoor saloon adorned with expansive viewing windows. Also available are a cafeteria for light refreshments, restroom facilities, and a cloakroom where you can borrow blankets and overalls for the tour’s duration. While the fresh sea air beckons outside, our heated lounge welcomes you to observe from within. Throughout the tour, our experienced naturalist guide will provide live commentary and notify you of any captivating sightings.
The common whale species you might encounter on our tours include minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. While these are the most frequent, occasional sightings of other species like killer whales, fin whales, sei whales, and long-finned pilot whales are possible, though less common. Summer brings the highest abundance of whales, offering ample opportunities to appreciate and learn about these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Our ongoing research even suggests that an increasing number of whales are remaining in the area throughout the year.
We look forward seeing you on the tour.
